Bonding – Many people choose bondings or white fillings over silver fillings because it looks more natural and the material can be matched to your natural tooth color. One of the disadvantages of bondings versus silver fillings are that they cost more. In addition, because it is porous, smokers and or coffee drinkers will find that it can discolor. Sometimes when a patient has spaces, broken front teeth, or slightly crooked teeth they choose to have veneers for a more cosmetic result. Tooth after bonding to repair the chip
White Restoration/Bondings: A Bonding is a tooth-colored restoration to repair a decayed, fractured, discolored, or chipped tooth as a cosmetic alternative to amalgam fillings on back teeth. For the front it is used to repair broken teeth, fill in gaps and reshape, or even recolor you teeth. The process is in which the restoration is placed creates a permanent adhesive bond with the resin material allowing for a natural looking white restoration. A solution is applied called etch that slightly roughs the surface of your teeth. This will allow the bonding material to adhere properly. The dentist then places the shade specific composite and sculpts it in to pleasing result. The composite is cured with a high-intensity light, and then polished to a nice glossy finish.
Veneers: Veneers are full surface coverings generally bonded to the front teeth. Veneers can repair teeth that simple bonded restorations can not, such as front teeth that are severely misshapen, broken/ chipped or discolored. Veneers create a long lasting restoration with a cosmetic result. Many people seek to have Veneers placed on the anterior teeth for cosmetic reasons only, giving them a beautiful “Hollywood” smile. It is best to come in for a FREE SMILE CONSULTATION to see if you’re a candidate.
There are two types of veneers:
• Porcelain (indirect) veneers, which must first be created to fit your teeth in a dental laboratory and require two or more visits to the dentist. Porcelain veneers are around $1000 and up and can last from 10 to 15 years or more with proper care.
• Composite (direct) veneers, in which enamel is bonded to your tooth in a single visit. Composite veneers cost significantly less, but only last five to seven years
Your dentist can tell you if you are a good candidate for veneers or bonding.

Periodontal Surgical Services
Surgical Periodontics – elimination of periodontal disease requires good home care and surgical intervention in the later stages. Patients do not usually know they have this problem until told by their dentist. Disease signs range from bleeding gums to loose teeth and abscesses. The surgical procedure is done in house and is minimally uncomfortable and affordable.
Grafts – Grafts are the placement of skin from one area to another. In people with gum recession or thin gum tissue, these procedures can help prevent tooth loss.
Cosmetic crown lengthening – In cases where patients have a “gummy” smile or lack even gum line to give a pleasing smile, the equivalent of plastic surgery to the gums may be utilized to improve the smiles overall appearance. In some cases there is a lack of adequate tooth structure on which to build a crown; crown lengthening surgery may be needed to achieve this goal.
In cases where teeth have been destroyed through dental disease, caries, periodontal disease, wear, or trauma a complete makeover of the dentition is needed. Dr. Gilson has extensive training in period-prosthetics services and provides many treatment options for terminal or torn down teeth. The goal of treatment is to provide a restored set of prosthetic teeth that look and function like your natural teeth once did.
